Radiohead “In Rainbows” Sales Figures Released

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

“According to reports most fans chose to pay nothing to download the album. However, it still generated more money before it was physically released (on December 31) than the total money generated by sales of the band’s previous album, 2003′s ‘Hail To The Thief’.”

Hilarious MythBusters Helium Clip

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

I find MythBusters to be a bit boring sometimes. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great show; I just think they tend to slow the pacing of some episodes down to compensate for a lack of actual content (“After the break…”). Anyway, this clip is quite the opposite … it offers the perfect blend of comedic timing with some light scientific information.

IE6 Adding Extra Space to Tags

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

IE Spacing
The goal was simple: make an image a link while using a css-based rollover. The rollover was accomplished using one image which had both the up and over states, the over state being directly below the up state in the image. Then, when the user hovers over the link, the background position moves to the bottom revealing the over state as the background image for the tag. Fine. The only problem is that in IE6 (&*$#@%&#*), there is a 4px or so space added to the bottom of the tag which reveals the damn over state (see image above)! Anyway, I’ve found a workaround:

a:hover{overflow:hidden;);

That’s it. Suck on that, IE. No more using negative padding values or spacing the up state 4px away from the over state in the image. I hope this helps someone out there. Later.

UPDATE: The extra space was because the tag was empty. Apparently IE6 will add 4px to the bottom of empty tags, divs included. What the hell is that about?

Simplify Media Software

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

This is one of the most useful applications I’ve come across in a long time. Available on both Windows and Mac (and iPhone), Simplify Media is a lightweight program that tums your PC into a streaming audio server. You can access your music on any computer that has the Simplify Media software installed. It’s genius.

First you create an account. Then you just install the free software on the PCs that you want to connect, linking them to the account you created. During installation, specify the directories on your computer that house the music you’d like to share. Once the setup is complete, you’ll have access to those music directories anywhere! The sound quality is amazing, too. I stream music from my office PC to my living room at home and it’s crystal clear (as long as you’re on wi-fi). If you’re using EDGE or 3G, the quality will be degraded a bit. It sounds like a 64kb/s mp3. The best part about this software is that you can ‘Invite’ your friends to share each other’s music … Invite me. My screen name is “alexmazzucca”. Simplify Media can be downloaded here.
